Mindful Nutrition

Mindful Nutrition comes from the increasing awareness, or more appropriately, the re-minder that what we put into our bodies affects how our energy level, mood and ultimately how our long term health story can turn out. Remember the expression, “We are what we eat?” Now more than ever,
this is true.

Dr. Richard Dubois , one of the world’s leading authorities on infectious diseases, states that the lack of fruits and vegetables in our diet may be the single most significant factor for the health care crisis of Americans today. In Time Magazine, Dr. David Katz ofYale University stated “This may be the first generation of children to NOT outlive their parents”.

Dr. William Sears, author of over 30 books on families, spells out in his DVD  “9 Simple Steps to a Healthier Family Diet”  and on his AskDrSears website the importance of an increase in fruits and vegetable. He writes, “For many years the National Institute of Health, the American Cancer Society, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and every other national health association has emphasized the importance of eating 11-13 servings of raw fruits and vegetables every day. The health benefits of this are numerous, including: Protection against cancer, Stronger immune system, Protection against heart disease, Prevention of chronic illness, Slows down the effects of aging”

Here’s the Truth:

*      80 million people have some form of heart disease (American Heart Association)

*      1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 men will have cancer in his or her lifetime (National Cancer Institute)

*      Over 20 million children and adults have diabetes (American Diabetes Association)

*      By the age of 12, an estimated 70% of our children have developed the beginning stages of hardening of the arteries.(Bogalusa Heart Study)

*      7% of school age children are diagnosed with ADHD. (Center for Disease Control and Prevention)

*      Our national health care expenditures were 2 trillion dollars in 2005 or $6,700 per person. (National Coalition on Health Care)

Some other statistics – by the year 2015:

*      400 million people will die due to PREVENTABLE chronic disease

*      $1.7 Trillion dollars will be spent on health care. Of that, $550 Billion will go to pharmaceutical companies and of that $196 Billion dollars will go to the Nutraceutical companies (ie VITAMINS)

The list goes on and on and on. Health professionals the world over agree. We need to improve what and how we eat. We need to return to ways of our forefathers and foremothers. We need to eat a predominantly plant based diet with a balance of plant based proteins and whole grains. We need to drink more fresh, pure water and eliminate the soda’s.

We need to change our approach of healing from “treating” our bodies dis-ease to “preventing” dis-ease in our bodies.

Dr. Isadore Rosenfeld, MD,  Health Editor of Parade Magazine wrote in his book “Power to the Patient” about the importance of taking our health back into our own hands. The American Cancer Society has devoted a website strictly to the importance of good eating www.fruitsandveggiesmorematters.org, with the emphasis on prevention of disease through fruits and vegetables.

Prevention, Prevention, Prevention. Have you ever felt prevention? For that matter, have you ever known the moment when a good cell becomes a  dis-eased cell? Our guess, is that the answer is no. Overwhelming evidence states we must eat 11-13 servings of raw fruits and vegetables every day to prevent dis-ease. Since most people are unable or unwilling to do that, we have found that Juice Plus+ is the perfect solution for the people of today’s stress-filled lifestyle!

Remember: If your lifestyle doesn’t control your body, eventually your body will control your lifestyle
